Merle is a cat girl who has been friends with Van for ages. She is very protective of him and gets extremely jealous when Hitome spends any time with him. She's often more cat like than human like and because of that I think that herfeelings for Van are probably more in a friend way. Sure, she gets jalous of Hitome when Hitome's with Van, but I think that's because she's just jealous of not having his attention (very cat-like). She doesn't like Hitome at the beginning, but gets to like her a little better later. Merle is loud, opinionated, and very protective of Van. The voice actor is the same as for Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi.
Well there's really no secrets or spoilers to her. She a pretty fun character though...
